Bombolulu | Kenya

Jacob, Jared Odongo brought me to an informal street school in a corner of the vibrant, muddy village of Bombolulu as it was back then in 2009 without infrastructure/proper water supply etc. I was shown around by Odongo and Merin and we went to see Maina Mariam, an elder, who invited me into her abode where we spoke. It was inspiring to be in a town that was just a vast community in the making, a town in it’s conception. There was one old, grand tree which marked a social hub and we imagined more demarcation using grand trees. A Bombolulu dream was being born and I didn’t know if it was real and I could just stay forever! Now it is a whole suburb of Mombassa, vast and bursting with infrastructure. No doubt more concrete than grand old trees. P4F gave instruction to a gathering of little children. They treated the supplies with such respect, cleaning their brush before dipping into another colour pot and not mixing everything into muddy brown. They were an absolute delight! The Aga Khan academy had donated paper, paints and brushes which we were able to leave behind.
